A step back in time...
A room, dimly lit and cobwebby, lined from the floor to the top of its second story ceiling with shelves stuffed with books; more books spilling onto piles scattered across the room, piled on the ornately curved stairwells leading to the upper level, also lined with books, books, and more books. Subtle hints of sandalwood drifted on the air, nothing musty about this space…
Piano chords float across the room, joined by a sweetly singing violin, with the warm tenor notes of a cello wrapping around the music…
The lighting flows and lifts with the music… a symphony of sound and light…
I could stay in this library all night… pick a book and curl up on a stair, and just stay in here…
The Workroom sits ready… for work to continue. Patterns are laid out on the cutting table ready to be made into garments, sewing machines sit ready for their users to sit back down and get back to sewing.
A small kitchen area is set to the side. Cups hang from hooks above the urn, a toaster sits patiently waiting for the next hungry seamstress, the table set with cups and saucers…an ashtray ready…
The room’s occupants just stepped out for a minute… or vanished.
Backstage, the scene is set with a microphone standing on stage ready for the singer to begin…
The soft yellow table lights create an intimate ambience. Take a seat, have a drink while soaking up the atmosphere… the soft music invites romantic, slow dancing with a dream date. A hint of rose in the air…
The deserted spaces continue…
The Mail Room… left in a total flurry, a small whirlwind scattered letters everywhere.
The Switchboard Room with calls still connected, also abandoned and deserted in a hurry… how quickly technology has changed.
The Waiting Room … with its plush seating and fancy coffee machine… a subtle scent of rose, with a touch of jasmine perhaps… base and mid tone florals scent the air… a elegant, welcoming and restful space for busy business.
The Typing Pool lays abandoned too… a letter half typed, a handbag left hanging on a chair, cherished mementoes gracing desks, drawers overflowing with paperwork… remember those days?
Oh wait… 😉
The inner sanctum where the buck stops and the real work gets done… a toy train graces the front edge of the huge desk. A spacious room that conveys a sense of calm control.
Again, there’s a lingering scent of roses…a whiff every now and then. They were here, till they weren’t…
The Pharmacy, the Art Room, and the Clock Room all deserted too. where did all the people go?
There’s that subtle scent of sandalwood drifting on the air again… now you smell it, now you don’t…
It’s like everyone vanished into thin air…
